About Us

Powerhouse sport was developed as a natural progression to the successful custom team clothing range which we supply to rowing clubs and individuals in UK, Ireland and Europe.
Trading as Powerhouse Clothing Company since 1994, supplying international athletes along with modest club rowers, we quickly established ourselves as leading manufacturers of innovative quality performance rowing clothing.

The majority of ideas for new products are generated from our close relationships with elite athletes. This test market provides both new ideas and improvements on existing designs, and ensures a ready market for new releases.

We started from humble beginnings in our apartment kitchen, with a borrowed sewing machine (thanks Brenda) and once we had pooled all our money (and sold our beloved cars) we were converting an old barn, which would become our new premises. Within a few years, increased stock levels and employees meant we had outgrown the place, and once again we took on another barn conversion. Thankfully this was on the same site, so moving day wasn't too arduous. We didn't know ourselves with our 'staff canteen' and inside toilet! In 2000 we were on the move again, this time all our manufacturing - to premises over 70 miles away, with the offices staying put. This was a much bigger operation involving the help of some fit young rowers, a fork truck and my very kind brother, who brought along his Scania.

I would be lying if I said it has been easy, and sometimes on a bad day I hanker after my old job again and the perks that accompanied it. Oh and along the way we got married and in the middle of all the mayhem that accompanies running a small business, I managed to squeeze in two pregnancies resulting in Xeno (7) and Amber Boo (3).

But at the end of the day, we have built up something from nothing, and we're very proud of our achievements. We still love the individual attention that we can give to our customers, and really enjoy meeting you at the regattas and shows which we attend.
Although we are both no longer competing, Garth is having great success as a rowing coach and enjoying the challenge that brings. I have struggled to find a replacement for rowing, but finally have found it, and have joined my local tennis club. At last I have found an outlet for my competitiveness, and I get to keep reasonably fit as well.
